THERE IS AN EPIDEMIC
Nearly one third of the developed world's children are overweight or obese. These children are likely to stay obese into adulthood and are at much greater risk of developing mental health issues as well as cancer, Type II diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, which can lead to premature death.
THERE IS A PROVEN SOLUTION
In 2011, the Global Children’s Challenge™ was host to 120,000 children from 27 different countries around the globe. The Global Children’s Challenge™ was developed following the success of the Global Corporate Challenge®, which since its launch in 2004, has helped over 300,000 adults globally develop a better relationship with exercise. In order to ‘Get The World Moving’, the Global Corporate Challenge® has shifted its focus to children.
The 2011 Global Children’s Challenge™ was a resounding success.
- The average daily step count was 16,277 steps per child
- 74% of teachers noticed an increase in their students' overall health & wellbeing
- 76% of teachers felt the GCC had a lasting impact on their students' attitude towards physical activity
- 95% of school teachers said they'd recommend it to other classes or schools
BUILDING HEALTHY FUTURES
Starting on Wednesday 19th September 2012, The Global Children's Challenge™ is a health initiative designed to get children from all over the world active, and instil in them the habit and importance of daily exercise for the rest of their lives.
Facilitated by teachers within classrooms, the Global Children's Challenge™ empowers children to change their relationship with exercise, their bodies and the environment. The benefits extend beyond making exercise easy and fun – it complements the curriculum, covering everything from geography and social studies to history and technology.
Put simply, it's about reaching out to children and addressing the issues now, not shrugging our shoulders and hoping it fixes itself, because it won't.
