RULES

GENERAL RULES

1. Each class in the Global Children‘s Challenge™ must comply with these rules. Failure to comply with these rules may result in the disqualification of a class at the discretion of GCC

2. The Global Children‘s Challenge™ is not a race. However, we acknowledge that some classes may want to adopt a 'race-like' approach to the challenge. This is permitted, however, the main construct of the event is to be active for the duration of the challenge (50 days) and have some fun along the way. The spirit of the event is that it is a 'challenge', a challenge to become more active and educated about your health.

3. Classes will comprise of students in the final three academic year groups in your primary, junior or elementary school. Depending on your country, this is likely to be children ranging in age from 8 to 12 years old..

4. Each teacher will be allocated a username and a password that enables the teacher (with their class) to access to the website found at www.gccjunior.org.

5. Each student will be given a pedometer and a Step Guide to record the number of steps taken each day during the challenge. Only one pedometer should be worn at any time.

5. Every 24 hours, we recommend each student writes in their Step Guide the step reading from his/her own pedometer. If students are on holidays, or it is the weekend, they can enter their steps into their Step Guide.

6. At the commencement of a new day during the challenge & once steps have been entered for yesterday, the student must reset the pedometer to 00000 so that a new step count can be recorded for the next 24 hour period.

7. Only official Global Children‘s Challenge™ pedometers may be used during the event.

THE GLOBAL CHILDREN'S CHALLENGE™ JOURNEY

1. The distance between locations in the Global Children‘s Challenge™ are approximate only, and have been calculated in direct lineal distances.

2. The website has been configured to calculate the class daily average step count and multiply this by 7. The figure is then converted into distance and the class is plotted on a world map.

3. The journey itself has been designed to keep classes engaged with activity for the entire 50 days of the Challenge. Global Children‘s Challenge™ is about children learning the lesson of being active every day for the rest of their lives. So the course itself will most likely be finished by very few classes if any at all.

4. The 2011 challenge commences on Thursday September 15, 2011 at 12:01am in your class‘ registered time zone and concludes on Thursday November 3, 2011 at 11:59pm in your class‘ registered time zone.

PEDOMETER USE

1. Every participant must use the official pedometer supplied by the Global Children‘s Challenge™.

2. Only one pedometer can be worn at any one time.

3. Students may not share a pedometer with another person or an animal.

4. The Pedometer may be worn at all times during the day and night, every day of the year – even after the challenge officially ends!

5. The Pedometer must be connected to the belt or waistband of the students clothing only, on the hip, to ensure the most accurate reading possible.

6. To RESET your pedometer hold down the RESET button until the display screen clears to 00000.
